5 Ways to Practice Self-Love this Valentine's Day

February is here and it is the month of love. Valentine's Day is around the corner and it is the perfect opportunity to show love to your honey, your friends, your family and most importantly, yourself! A lot of times when Valentine's Day comes to mind, people tend to automatically think of date nights, receiving gifts, and making sure to have a Valentine. However, I am here to tell you that none of that truly matters if you don't have a good grasp on self-love.

We give so much of ourselves day in and day out to our families, our jobs, our friends, and any other obligation we have that it is very important to ensure we are giving ourselves even more love than we tend to give out. I want to make sure that you guys understand that self-love is not selfish. You can't truly give love to other people until you know how to love yourself the right way. Not only that, but it will drain you. I realize that practicing self-love daily is much easier said than done, so I am here to share 5 ways that you can practice self-love this Valentine's Day.

5 Ways to Practice Self-Love this Valentine's Day

1. Buy Yourself A Bouquet of Flowers

Or two or three bouquets! I don't know about you, but having fresh flowers in my home instantly boost my mood. I love looking at them and I also love arranging them. Go to your local grocery store, pick out an assortment of flowers, and go home and get your creativity flowing. You will be so proud and it will feel good to look at them every day!

2. Write a Love Letter to Yourself

Be honest with yourself about the things you truly love about you! This may take some time, but sit down and really think this through. It is okay to look in the mirror and say "wow, I really love you!" and we need to normalize loving ourselves, and not just loving ourselves, but being able to point out the specific things we love about ourselves.

3. Treat Yourself Queen!

Go get a mani/pedi, go buy that bag you've been eyeing forever, eat that extra dessert, go have a spa day. Whatever treating yourself looks like to you, do it! You deserve it!

4. Dress Up & Snap It Up

Nothing boosts my self-esteem like having a full on photoshoot! I love getting my hair done, doing my makeup, putting on a super cute outfit, and taking lots of pictures. Now, these photos are for you so you don't have to show them off to anyone, but if you choose to put them on the Gram', then go for it sis! Let your friends/family make you feel good, too!

5. Write A List of Positive Affirmations

This is one of my favorite things to do. If you struggle to be kind to yourself, then write some affirmations and then say them out loud, proudly. If you need help getting started, there's apps and websites that will give you some affirmations that are centered around self-love.

I hope this list will help get you started on your way to loving yourself more because you deserve all the love this world has to give! What are some of your favorite ways to practice self-love? I'd love to read about them in the comments.

  1. My guy will be treating me by taking the dog to the dog park so I can stay in. He'll then come home with some Starbucks and breakfast. That's all I need. :)

  7. When I worked a "normal job" oh those 6+ years ago now, I worked right next to a store that sold fresh flowers, and once a week I'd buy myself a bouquet. It's been nearly as many years since I've done that. Thanks for the reminder that I deserve that from myself! These are great self-love tips.
