If You're Happy & You Know It....

Have any of you just sat back and thought about what truly makes you happy each day? Have you ever just took a break from your every day routine and the things that bring you stress and just REALLY put into perspective the things that bring you the most joy? A couple months ago, I was asked the same questions and my answer was no. I knew I was happy most of the time, but I also knew I was stressed, frustrated, and unhappy a lot of times as well. I was in the midst of planning the wedding of my dreams, yet I was upset a lot and just feeling...incomplete. When I tell y'all I cried SO. MUCH. I was an emotional WRECK! My mom seriously thought I was pregnant because the smallest things were causing me to cry and my poor husband didn't know what to do with me.

I knew it wasn't those small circumstances causing my tears, but balled up feelings I had not dealt with like I needed to. I knew that something had to change, but I wasn't exactly sure what needed to change. Do I need to change myself? Do I need to change my circumstances? Some of the people I surround myself with, is it healthy for me? Am I doing what I want to do or am I worried about what the next person is doing? This was seriously a conversation I had to have with myself and I literally had to come full-circle to find ways of making myself happy. & that's just it, ladies and gentlemen! The million dollar answer: YOU have to make YOURSELF happy and it took me awhile to figure that out.

I was dependent on my friends, family, husband, co-workers, and whoever else I associated with to bring me happiness like all the time and when that didn't happen, I was unhappy angry! I needed that connection every single day or I felt there was something wrong with me or that I wasn't good enough. This was an issue I had to work out on my own. It was no one's fault but my own for feeling this way. I had to realize that I am growing and the people around me are growing as well and because of this growth, we can't be dependent on each other for our happiness ALL the time. You have to find your own happiness within and with your own circumstances you're forming for yourself. I'm still a work in progress and I am still dealing with small issues I haven't worked out, but trust me, I AM HAPPY because I CHOOSE to be! I am so blessed! :)

SO! Here's a few ways I have adapted to creating my own space and happiness. I hope it helps someone like it has helped me.

1. Count Your Blessings Everyday - This one is HUGE! How can you be unhappy when you think of all the blessings God has given to you?! Just because things don't go the way you want them to go today, doesn't discredit the fact that he has provided your every need and you live a beautiful life. Others aren't as fortunate and for that alone, you should be able to smile every day.
2. Find or Restart A Hobby You Love - One of the many reasons I started this blog! I have wanted to for a long time, but I always made or found an excuse not to. Ever since I finally started, I feel so complete and happy! This is truly a passion of mine, writing and fashion, all mixed into one and it is amazing! Find something to do for YOU!
3. Don't Worry About Others Opinions of You - It's hard to be happy if you're constantly worried about how others will portray your happiness. Will they think you're bragging or being cocky? Will they support you? Will they be happy FOR you? Once you stop caring what the answer to those questions are, you'll lead a happier life. :)
4. Do Nice Things For Others - I am one of the most selfless people and I do it because it makes ME happy, not so much the other way around. If I had a dollar for how many good deeds I have done for people and I didn't feel I was appreciated for it, I would be RICH! However, I keep doing those nice things because of the joy it brings me. You should try it!
5. Don't Be Against Finding New Friends and Losing Old Ones - MOST IMPORTANT! Life is all about evolving and when you evolve, everyone might not be able to go with you and vice-versa! I HATE losing friends and honestly, I hated making new friends. I used to feel like it was too much work! However, once I grasped that everyone is not meant to be around for every part of your life, but some are just for season, I feel better and happier. I no longer cry when I feel I have lost a friend and I am COMPLETELY open to making new friends! I have made some wonderful new friends and can't wait to see where our friendship takes us! Happiness all around! :)

"Sing a song, dance along, and for all your days, you'll be happy and strong!" :) I totally just made that up, but I hope it made you smile!
